Some good habits for a youthful appearance. What are some good habits to get into to keep my skin looking young?

This question is fired at me. Either directly, or indirectly at nearly every single email I field.

Here are some good habits to get into to retard the aging skin process…..

  1. Use skin products that contain these 3 must-haves in the bathroom cabinet. Scrubs/moisturisers that contain Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Alfa Arbutin and Resveratrol. Especially after the age of 30. This is when our own production of collagen starts to diminish. Don’t bother about moisturisers that contain collagen, though. They are a rip-off. If you check back on the blog I wrote regarding collagen, you’ll see what I mean. Keep up a healthy diet, and you’re most of the way there.
  2. This is a tough one. Especially if you have a sweet tooth. Try and avoid sugar. Sugar only adds to the aging of the skin.
  3. Take it easy! Go for a massage or leisurely stroll to forget your stress. Baroque music is very good for relaxing!
  4. I know this sounds paradoxical. Avoid drugs. A lot of people will worry about parabens in products, yet will go out on Saturday night smoking and drinking! I realise these substances play a big part in social life, but your health has to come first.
  5. Limit your sun exposure! And remember the good old sunscreen. The higher the SPF the better. Go for UVA and UVB protection. Even on cloudy/overcast days.
  6. Try not to spend so much time looking down at your phone. Your neck is very important. Try using a hands-free device.
